ABBI KLEIN
LCSW, Executive Director
Hi, I’m Abbi Klein (she/they)! I’ve been practicing psychotherapy for 15 years in New York City, focusing on integrating my mental health training as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with greater somatic and esoteric practices, in order to provide a holistic approach to both individual and group therapeutic work. I co-founded Elemental Brooklyn as a way to build a community of providers dedicated to merging a spiritually-aligned practice without losing social justice and radical politics.
I like to work with people who have been told they are “too sensitive” and want to reclaim their sensory body as a powerful instrument for connection. I also work with those who have grown up with intergenerational trauma, rigid religious upbringings, and those who have found the best way of survival is to adapt to the needs of others rather than their own. Since these experiences often leave people feeling lost to their authentic selves, I work with people to find their voice, their Self energy, and agency in their life. Frequent topics in treatment with me are: making space to feel emotions, boundary setting, communication, and containment. I like working with self-identified black sheep, weirdos, and those who long for more than what the world they were born into offers; especially in relation to how we live, work, love, and express ourselves. I also enjoy working with those who are currently experiencing medical challenges and injury/chronic pain.
Currently, I’m in my Advanced year of Somatic Experiencing training. SE is an experiential modality that focuses on ways the individual nervous system may engage in patterns of defense, and working with the body to resolve these patterns for greater adaptability and choice in stressful situations. SE prioritizes the idea that the body has an innate capacity to heal and overall longs for safe, attuned connection with others.
Outside of the therapy room, I love snowboarding, devouring books, being near trees and bodies of water, and anything to do with cats.
